How Dead Ear Affects Your Daily Life

  • When you have two good ears, you can tell which direction a sound is coming from. With a dead ear, It’s more difficult to do so.
  • If you are in a busy environment with heavy background noises, it may be harder to hear a conversation, even if the person is talking right in front of you.
  • It takes a lot longer to focus and understand someone’s speech when there’s a lot of noise and you’re doing tasks. You may even miss what the person is saying if you’re busy doing something and they talk into your dead ear.
  • With two good ears, you hear noises equally from both ears. With a dead ear, most noises will sound softer and more subdued from the use of only one ear.

How We Can Help

While we can’t make your dead ear hear normally, we can treat your condition through your good ear with the right hearing aids. Typically, a microphone and transmitter are placed in your dead ear and the information it receives is sent to your head and then crosses over to a receiver in your good ear.
